Manitobah Mukluks is dedicated to sharing success and our platform with Indigenous artists and creators. We designed this limited edition Paninnguaq Mukluk in collaboration with Paninnguaq Lind Jensen...there are only 150 pairs available!

About the Artist:

Paninnguaq Lind Jensen was born in 1990 in the capital of Greenland, Nuuk. She started working as a freelance artist and as a self-employed tattooist in the Western tradition. While working as a tattooist in the Western tradition, many of her clients starting asking her about Inuit inspired designs such as tupilak’s, ulu’s and Sassumap Arnaa (Mother of the Sea).

In her search for more inspiration she came across a book with Inuit mummies that had tattoos and she realized that Inuit had traditions of marking the body. Paninnguaq has been researching Inuit culture and traditional practices since 2016 as part of her training in traditional Inuit tattoo work. Her work in ‘Inuit Tattoo Traditions’ focuses on cultural preservation, culture dissemination and educating Inuit of Greenland about the Inuit tradition of marking the body.

About the Art:

“When I was asked to do a design for Manitobah Mukluks, I wanted to be true to the patterns we find in our culture. In the researching of migrations in the northern part of North America, I got to understand that meetings and influence on cultures was natural. Our cultures are shaped by the environments and weather changes. And when I had the opportunity to co-operate with Manitobah Mukluks I imagined our two cultures meeting and playing with the idea of how the outcome would look like. The outcome is an interlacing of mukluks and kamiit (traditional Inuit footwear). The pattern I designed is inspired by colorful avittat that women sew into the kamiit for their national costumes.” - Paninnguaq Lind Jensen

Care instructions: Our artist collaborations are printed on painted, delicate, white leather. They are not waterproof and should not be worn in muddy slush. Please spray them carefully with high-quality, new, silicon-based spray. Wear and tear can be covered with white shoe polish.
